Ashley Hollingsworth, Brand Marketing Specialist at McDermott Will & Emery LLP, is one of the two members who were honored this year with our prestigious “Member of the Year” award. The award was presented to Ashley at our Mid-Atlantic Region Conference on November 1, 2018.
In 2017, Ashley became the first Social Media Chair for our region. She manages all of the region’s social media platforms and develops our social media strategy – including our presence on Facebook and Twitter, and our LinkedIn Showcase page. She builds content for our social media campaigns and makes sure that our members are always up-to-date on what’s going on in the region.
Running social media for the region fits perfectly with Ashley’s experiences and strengths. At McDermott, Ashley works with the health and life sciences practices and helps to develop the practice’s content, including newsletters, client alerts, blogs and social media. She says she’s particularly pleased that her team has been able to produce content that highlights the ways in which McDermott’s lawyers participate in “Collaborative Transformation,” helping their clients thrive through unique partnerships, joint ventures and mergers. The group uses social media posts, blog posts, a landing page on the firm website, and NPR ads to emphasize the firm’s success in client service.
Ashley says it’s very exciting to work in a large law firm in social media and that she enjoys helping some attorneys get started in the area and encouraging many others who already have a social media presence to do more.
Ashley joined McDermott this past July. Before that, she was Communications Coordinator at Buckley Sandler LLP for more than two years and then a Marketing Communications Specialist at Miller & Chevalier Chartered for almost two years.
“At every law firm where I’ve worked, I always did social media, so when it came time to set up a social media chair for our LMA region, I just volunteered,” Ashley says. “We have a great core group that understands and values social media in Baltimore, D.C. and Richmond. To me, the key aspects of social media for the region are to provide visibility for all our events, to build a consistent brand for the region and to repurpose as much as we can for the newsletter and other written materials. For example, live coverage of our events is fairly new to us and is very exciting. I want to see the committee grow, and I want to see it remain open to input from anyone who wishes to join.”
Ashley says that she has had excellent mentors and role models in our region, including Ezra Crawford, then director of marketing and business development at Buckley Sandler, who was her first supervisor in legal marketing and encouraged her to become active in our region.
Ashley is originally from Ohio and received a B.A., magna cum laude, in communications studies from the College of Wooster, as well as an M.A. in public relations from Ball State University. In addition to chairing our Social Media Committee, she is also a member of the region’s Newsletter Committee and writes frequently on topics related to content management, project management and marketing technology.
