Capital Chapter Kicks Off Green Initiative

Washington, D.C., February 4, 2008 -- The Legal Marketing Association’s Capital Chapter is kicking off a “Green Initiative” for 2008.

The chapter, with more than 300 members, is the first LMA chapter in the nation to make a concerted initiative to “go green.”

Among the steps that the chapter is taking this year:

  • It is holding all its speaker programs at a D.C. restaurant that follows “green” practices, such as using locally grown produce, providing filtered tap water rather than bottled water, using environmentally conscious disposable products such as plates made from sugar cane, and donating leftovers to a soup kitchen.

  • It is turning to electronic rather than paper-based versions of key documents such as program invitations and evaluations.

  • It has substituted a CD for the bound books of materials given to its Board of Directors.

  • It is identifying chapter sponsors that use products that come from responsibly managed forests and from recycled sources.

“Many of the law firms that our members work for are trying hard to develop environmentally responsible practices,” said Kimberly Bell, the chapter president. “The firms’ clients are doing the same. It is only appropriate that we as marketers do our share to help to preserve the environment.”

The Capital Chapter is the region’s preeminent professional development and leadership organization for legal marketers. In-house legal marketers are not our only members.  Attorneys, legal administrators, recruiting personnel, law students, professional-services consultants, media representatives and vendors to the legal marketplace are also active in our chapter.
