Over the last few years there has been increasing amounts of legislation aimed at protecting individuals from unrestricted marketing communications. From the European GDPR, through Canada’s CASL to California’s recently introduced CCPA firms are faced with increasing constraints on what they can and can’t do with respect to electronic marketing.
As marketers, we often view these regulations as tiresome obstacles to negotiate. If, however, you flip your perspective and see it from the recipient’s point of view, it will become clear that the regulations simply drive respectful behavior in those sending marketing communications. Adopting a “Golden Rule” mindset ensures not only actual compliance but enhances your reputation with your contacts.
