Jasmine Trillos-Decarie is the Chief Client Service Officer at Stoel Rives LLP based in their Seattle office. She is an experienced marketing leader with more than 25 years of experience in marketing and business development at international AmLaw 100 and 200 firms. Jasmine’s expertise includes developing and implementing business development and marketing plans that support the firm’s strategic and financial objectives as well as the successful leading, motivating and coaching of cross-functional teams.
Jasmine works to develop and implement the business development strategies and marketing strategies and provides leadership and direction to the Marketing and Business Development Department. Jasmine collaborates with firm leadership, department chairs and individual attorneys to support various marketing opportunities and to reinforce the firm’s visibility.
Prior to joining Stoel Rives, Jasmine was in charge of the Marketing & Business Development team at Foley Hoag LLP in Boston, MA. Prior to that she spearheaded marketing and business development strategy at two international AmLaw 100 law firms and was responsible for creating and expanding strategic initiatives. She has also been active with the International Legal Marketing Association Board of Directors and the LMA New England Board of Directors.
Since 2007, I have been helping to build JD Supra, a digital media company that enables professionals to greatly increase visibility by sharing their expertise online.
JDSupra.com distributes long form content (articles, client alerts, blog posts, videos and other publications) to targeted audiences around the web. With subscribers in the many hundreds of thousands, readers include in-house counsel, c-level executives, media members and others. JD Supra clients include some of the largest law firms in the world, as well as solo attorneys and professionals in niche fields and practices.
I was Yahoo!'s 28th employee; I built and managed the company's first team of editors and writers.
My writing has been published in the Chicago Sun Times, USA Today, Forbes Traveller, Yahoo! Internet Life, elsewhere. I have a graduate degree in Creative Writing; I'm a published poet.
In 1999, Brill's Content media magazine described me as "The most important person in Cyberspace of whom you've never heard" in their Top-25 Influence List. The magazine then promptly folded. I see a connection . . . .
I've always been driven by an interest at the intersection of technology and media. The son of an old-world print journalist, I inherited the gene that makes me care about delivering content to audience.
I taught myself to program (Pascal, Cobol, Fortran, Basic, etc.) in the early 80s and spent time on the old dial-up BBS platforms.
Starting with childhood memories of visiting my dad in an ink-stained newsroom in Cape Town, South Africa, through my time in the mid-90s at Yahoo!, to what I am building today . . . I've been enormously lucky to witness firsthand a fundamental shift in the way the world shares and communicates information. Love the startup life. Invited to speak around the country on the state of content marketing and digital media, especially as it pertains to marketing of professional services. Know more about Chinese tea than a person should; am willing the share.
Mahalet Asrat Ropar
Manager Business Development
Mahalet Ropar is a Business Development Manager at Stoel Rives. Mahalet has spent her career trying to improve processes, environments and outcomes for her team and her attorneys. She has had the fortunate experience of working with both AM Law 100 and 200 firms, which has helped to shape her perspective of what success looks like in the legal industry. From a start as an event planner, turned consultant, turned legal marketer, she has had an unorthodox path into the legal market. As a previous nomad, she has had the pleasure of serving on LMA committees in three separate regions and is delighted to be a part of the LMA Tech West planning committee.
Senior Communications Manager
John J. Buchanan, Senior Communications Manager at Sheppard Mullin, provides senior level public relations and communications counsel to lawyers, helping them raise their visibility in the media, strengthen their personal brands by using a variety of communication platforms, and manage their firms’ reputations. He more than 25 years of marketing and communications experience, having spent the last 16 years in law firms. He has held senior roles at large and small firms; is a member of the Editorial Board of Marketing the Law Firm; and is currently co-chair of LMA's PR & Communications Shared Interest Group.
Director of Marketing
Brewer Offord & Pedersen LLP
Clayton Dodds is the Director of Marketing at Brewer Offord & Pedersen LLP, a boutique real estate law firm located in the heart of Silicon Valley. He serves as the 2019 Chair of the LMA Bay Area local steering committee, and has been on the planning committees for the 2015, 2016, and 2018 LMA Tech West Conferences. As the 2019 vice chair of the California Lawyers Association Law Practice Management & Technology (LPMT) section, Clayton is passionate about enabling attorneys and law firm professionals to better serve clients through effective technology use. He frequently writes and speaks about several legal technology topics, including cyber-security, APIs, project management, IT governance, data analytics, and marketing automation.
Davis Wright Tremaine LLP
Jennifer Magin is the Practice Manager of Davis Wright Tremaine’s Healthcare, Energy and Environmental practice groups. She has more than nine years of project and program management experience. Prior to joining DWT, she was a project manager at Seattle Children’s Hospital in the clinical effectiveness department managing projects focused on process improvements for patient care. In her current role, she and her team help the practice groups that they serve operate more effectively and efficiently by providing a range of strategic, analytical, operational and sales support services to the practice group leadership and others in each group. Jennifer has an M.B.A from Regis University.
Allison's career has been spent at the intersection of law, technology and client growth. She has spent 25 years in the legal industry holding leadership roles in sales, law firm business development and client success. She began her post-law school career at LexisNexis where she spent seven years as a consultant to law firms and managing sales teams. In 2000, Allison joined Interface Software (InterAction) where she served as National Account Manager where her interest in the intersection of legal tech and sales took root. In 2004, she made the transition from the corporate world and joined Goodwin Procter as the firm’s first Manager of Business Development where her primary objective was to build programs and processes designed to help develop lawyers' strategic planning and selling skills. From there, she moved to another AMLAW 100 firm before joining the tech start-up, Manzama. At Manzama, she served as East Coast Director of Sales before being tapped to develop and lead its Client Success organization. As Chief Client Officer, she led a team that achieved exceptional rates of client retention and satisfaction while the company grew from 25 clients in 2009 to over 170 in 2018. In 2018, she left Manzama to head up Customer Success at Kira Systems, the industry leader in AI-assisted contract review.
