John Strange is the Director of Pricing and Practice Management at Baker Botts LLP in Houston, Texas. As a member of the senior leadership team, John is responsible for the development, coordination and execution of the Firm’s pricing, practice management, and LPM strategies. He interfaces directly with clients, Business Development leads, and Partners to outline client requirements and develop mutually beneficial, value-based billing arrangements. His team is responsible for the improvement of service delivery models, strategic planning, management reporting, and decision support of the Executive Committee. Prior to joining the firm, John was the Director of Pricing at Vinson & Elkins LLP. His earlier experience includes four years as Manager of Legal Administration at Altria (NYSE: MO) and ten years with Shook, Hardy, and Bacon in Kansas City, MO (“SHB”). At SHB, his duties included management of the nurse and scientific analyst program and staff, vendor management, matter budgets, rate analysis, trial site selection, and general administration within his Division. John is a founding member of the Legal Marketing Association’s “P3” special interest group, which is focused on pricing, project management, and practice innovation. He co-chaired the inaugural 2013 and 2014 National P3 Conferences and is a member of the Association of Legal Administrators, the LMA, and ILTA. Prior to entering the legal industry, John was a research scientist. In addition to his M.B.A., he holds a M.A. in Molecular Genetics with honors from the University of Kansas. He completed his B.S. in Chemistry and Biology cum laude at the University of Saint Mary.
