Catching Up with the LMA Northeast Recipients of the 2018 LMA Annual Conference Scholarship Fund

We had a chance to catch up with the LMA Northeast Recipients of the 2018 LMA Annual Conference Scholarship Fund before they head off to New Orleans next week. Here’s what they’re most looking forward to in The Big Easy. (Hint: in addition to networking and educational opportunities, a common theme of beignets and live music runs through our winners’ responses.)

How are you going to make the most of your LMA18 experience?

My LMA18 game plan is to attend as many events and sessions as possible, network with leading service providers in the exhibit hall and participate in the dialogue on Twitter. Here's hoping that the coffee is good!

What sessions/events are you most looking forward to attending?

You'll find me in the Client Services, Marketing Management and Leadership, and Business Development tracks.

Why did you decide to put yourself forward for the LMANE conference scholarship?

The LMA Annual Conference is a career-changing experience with top-notch education as well as the unique opportunity to discuss best practices with leading professionals in the industry from around the globe. I jumped at the chance to receive a scholarship to attend!

What are you most looking forward to about visiting New Orleans?

This will be my first time in NOLA, which is hard to believe if you know about my involvement in the music industry. I'm hoping to some of my favorite musicians perform and stumble upon a few up-and-coming acts.

What does the LMA mean to you?

LMA has led me to wonderful people, and transformative experiences and opportunities. It's an important aspect of my professional life and one that continues to provide value.

How are you going to make the most of your LMA18 experience?

I plan on making the most of my LMA18 experience by taking advantage of all of the opportunities available. I signed up for the mentorship program and will be meeting up with my mentor to discuss best practices for approaching the conference as well as networking tips. I also worked with my colleagues at Jones Day to divide up the sessions so we can share information with each other and our firm. I also plan to attend many networking and social events outside of the conference agenda to continue collaborating and meeting people.

What sessions/events are you most looking forward to attending?

I am looking forward to attending the keynote presentation — “The Science of Happiness,” the General Counsel Panel and the breakout sessions, “Making the Business Case for Diversity in Legal Marketing” and “The Next Big Thing — Strategy and Structure in Disruptive Times.”

Why did you decide to put yourself forward for the LMA Northeast conference scholarship?

I have been an active member of LMA Northeast Region for the last five years but have not had the opportunity to attend the conference. As the current co-chair of New York’s Membership Committee, I want to attend the conference and learn what other regions and local groups are doing for their members, so the scholarship was an ideal chance to make this happen. I also feel I am at a point in my career where I am ready to take on more leadership roles within LMA, so the conference will allow me to experience and learn more about the true scope of the organization.

What are you most looking forward to about visiting New Orleans?

I have been to New Orleans on a few occasions, and I love the food and the music. I can’t wait to have some beignets and catch some live jazz music. There are also some great craft beers to enjoy!

What does LMA mean to you?

To me, LMA is a tight-knit family that is always willing to support, teach and help each other. I would not be where I am today within our industry without the mentorship and support of many of my fellow LMA members.

How are you going to make the most of your LMA18 experience?

Planning and balance. My goal is to make sure I incorporate a good mix of programming, networking and culture in my trip.

What sessions/events are you most looking forward to attending?

Our firm is in the early stages of a rebranding/website project, so I’m interested in learning anything and everything I can about the process (the good, the bad and the ugly). I will be feverishly taking notes on any tips, case studies and war stories that might help us navigate through this project.

Why did you decide to put yourself forward for the LMANE conference scholarship?

The annual conference offers an array of programming covering current and relevant topics, and presented by the most respected industry experts. Attending this conference allows me to bring new ideas and best practices to our firm, which helps enhance current and new strategies. It is also a great opportunity to reconnect and strengthen relationships with industry professionals who I have met over the years, as well as meet new people.

What are you most looking forward to about visiting New Orleans?

Beignets and music – preferably together.

What does the LMA mean to you?

As a marketer in a two-person department, LMA is an invaluable resource for me. It provides me with the educational programming and online resources necessary for me to keep my finger on the pulse of the industry. The networking opportunities allow me to get to know peers within my industry, meet business partners who may be able to help me move the needle with my marketing and business development efforts, and, it enables me to create a database of legal marketing rock stars to whom I can reach out at any time for advice or to brainstorm ideas. It’s also a two-way street, so I love that LMA provides opportunities to volunteer and give back to the organization.
