Even if you haven’t heard of the book Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway®, most of us can relate to its title and have likely needed to embrace its sentiment at some point.
On January 16, the CMO SIG was treated to a unique and lively presentation on this empowering affirmation. Marcia Jeffers, a Boston University-trained attorney and two-decade veteran of Big Law marketing, joined Wilentz CMO Lynn Tellefsen in a fun and engaging examination of how important it is to understand what we fear, why we fear it and how to conquer that fear.
Marcia’s sister, the late Susan Jeffers, authored the seminal best-seller, and since Susan’s passing, Marcia has taken up the mantle speaking in the United States and abroad to share and spread the book’s insights. She walked us through the process of mapping out what we are grateful for, what paralyzes us and how to methodically overcome our fears in order to lead a fulfilling life. Lynn followed with examples of the numerous ways she employed these tools to take on challenges, achieve new goals and learn new skills – including mastering her fear of surfing – literally breaking through the waves. Both a fascinating and interactive discussion, this program was cathartic for all who face the daily pressures and fears that are often manifest in our industry.
Thank you to our wonderful speakers, and to NY CMO SIG co-chair Dawn Longfield and Davis & Gilbert for providing lunch as well as a safe and nurturing environment in which to explore our fears and learn how to keep on growing!
