Hometown: Glendale, AZ

Education: I have a bachelor’s degree from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University (ASU).

What was your very first job, how old were you and what was the biggest takeaway from the experience?

My very first job was in high school at a local photography studio. We specialized in senior photography and it was a lot of fun! I learned how to interact with customers and have great telephone etiquette. We had to cold-call a lot of people too, so my fear of calling and talking to strangers went away real fast!

At what point in your life did you realize you wanted to pursue a legal career and why are you passionate about your profession?

I wasn’t really looking to pursue a career in legal marketing, it kind of just found me and I am so thankful it did! I used to be the marketing director at two regional magazines and I was getting really burnt out. My old neighbor at the time was the HR Director for my now Law Firm, and she had told me that they were looking for a marketing person… It sparked my interest immediately! I was looking for a change so I decided to interview with them. In our meeting, I knew it was going to be a fantastic fit from the get-go. My interview went great and I was hired. It was great. I feel so lucky to be where I am.

What time do you typically get up on a workday, and what’s your ideal morning routine to get it off to a great start?

I wake up around 6:30 a.m., get ready for work, eat a quick breakfast and then get in around 8:20. Then, an attorney and I head out for a coffee run to one of our favorite local coffee shops. (I usually get a latte or cappuccino – and I will admit it, I am a total coffee snob!) It is a great way to start the day off!

What’s something about your job that might surprise people?

People who aren’t in legal always think I create commercials or bus stop advertisements. It always cracks me up because that is NOT what all legal marketers do! I then have to explain to them my law firm is full-service and we are a business related firm… So we focus primarily on litigation, real estate, construction, healthcare, employment, bankruptcy, Indian Law etc.

What are your best productivity hacks?

Making a to-do list is huge. I make one at the start of each week with “big ticket items” and then create smaller lists daily. Crossing things off feels so good and it really helps me stay organized. And call me old-fashioned, but I use a pen and paper… I am a sucker for pretty notebooks and nice pens.

What are some of your hobbies or favorite things to do in your free time?

I enjoy cooking and baking as well as checking out new local restaurants. I also enjoy doing Pilates and going to the gym. My husband and I travel quite often - our next trip is to Boston and NYC in the spring. Of course, I love hanging out with friends and family too!

You’re taking me out to a business lunch in Phoenix. Where are we going and what do you recommend I order?

I would probably take you to The Henry. It is a Sam Fox restaurant and it has a really cool atmosphere. Everything on the menu is delicious and they have a fantastic coffee bar inside too.

What’s one of the smartest purchases you’ve ever made? What’s one of the dumbest?

I would probably say one of the smartest purchases I have ever made was with my husband, when we bought our house! It was a great experience- we built- and we live in an amazing neighborhood. One of my dumbest purchases would probably be something fashion related. I look back at some of my style choices and wonder, “Why, Lauren?”

Can you name someone who has had a great impact on you as a leader, or someone who has been a mentor to you in your life or career? How have they changed your outlook?

I would say my managing partner and executive director at my Firm have both been amazing leaders and mentors for me. Being new to legal, they were (and still are) so supportive of anything I am interested in and they teach me so much every day. I am lucky to work with such a talented group of attorneys as well.

What is something you are absolutely determined to do in life?

I am determined to always be good person! I always want to be someone that people enjoy being around and someone other people can look up to.
