Announcing the 2018 LMA Southwest Your Honor Awards

The LMA Southwest Region is pleased to announce its inaugural Your Honor Awards ("YHA"). For this first year, the YHA will focus on individual members who have made significant contributions to the Region and the legal marketing industry between January 1, 2017, and July 31, 2018. Categories included are: LMA Southwest Member of the Year, LMA Southwest Rising Star, and LMA Southwest Distinguished Legal Marketing Professional.

When & Where

An awards presentation to celebrate the winners will take place during the LMA Southwest Region Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona on October 3-5, 2018.

Award Categories

LMA Southwest Region members are encouraged to submit nominations for their peers in the following categories:

  • LMA Southwest Member of the Year
  • LMA Southwest Rising Star
  • LMA Southwest Distinguished Legal Marketing Professional

This award recognizes the contributions of an individual regional member who has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the growth and success of our region by furthering the goals of LMA. A candidate may be an active volunteer and be considered for this award and not have been an official “leader” in the organization to date.

Candidates for the LMA Southwest Member of the Year Award will be selected based on the following weighted criteria:

1. Contribution to the LMA Southwest Region (50%)

Provide a summary with evidence and specific examples of significant contributions to the LMA Southwest Region since January 2017.

2. Contribution to LMA Outside of the Region (25%) - Provide examples of contributions to LMA outside of the Southwest Region. Include years of membership and service at the chapter, national, conference or committee levels. This may or may not include elected or appointed leadership roles.

3. Contribution to the Legal Industry (15%)

Achievements and contributions outside of LMA but still within the legal industry. State the most significant examples in which the nominee has contributed to the advancement of the legal marketing profession since January 2017.

4. Future Leadership Potential (10%)

Describe the characteristics of the nominee that can poise him/her to become a leader in their profession, in LMA, and/or their community.

This award recognizes a professional in the association who is age 35 or under and/or who has less than 10 years of overall work experience within the legal industry. They should be one who is truly ‘one to watch’ because of their contribution to the profession, the association, their community, and shows promise of leadership in the future.

Candidates for the Rising Star Award will be selected based on the following criteria:

1. Contribution to the Profession (50%)

Provide a summary with evidence and specific examples of significant achievements in the workplace or industry that demonstrate the applicant’s role in the advancement of his/her firm/company. State the most significant examples in which the nominee has contributed to the advancement of the legal marketing profession generally through development of new initiatives, writing of articles, books or trade publications, etc.

2. Contribution to LMA and the LMA Southwest Region (20%)

Provide examples of contributions to LMA and the LMASW Region. Include years of membership and service at the chapter, national, conference or committee levels. This may or may not include elected or appointed leadership roles; a candidate may be an active volunteer and be considered for this award and not have been an official “leader” in the organization to date.

3. Future Leadership Potential (20%)

Describe the characteristics of the nominee that can poise him/her to become a leader in their profession, in LMA, and/or their community.

4. Contribution to Their Community (10%)

Provide examples of the candidate’s involvement in non-business related activities that benefit their local (or global) community. For a fully rounded rising star, a candidate will make contributions outside of their industry and profession in an attempt to have a broader worldview that will ultimately serve their industry/profession and association.

This award is given to an individual member who has made significant contributions to the legal marketing industry, LMA, the Southwest Region (or its predecessor chapters) and its members, and has consistently demonstrated the highest levels of leadership, innovation, and mentorship. Regional members in good standing who have been actively involved in the Legal Marketing Association for a minimum of 10 years are eligible for consideration.

Candidates for the Distinguished Legal Marketing Professional are selected based on the following weighted criteria:

1. Contribution to LMA and the LMA Southwest Region (30%)

Provide examples of contributions to LMA and the LMASW Region. Include years of membership and service at the chapter, region, national, conference or committee levels. This may or may not include elected or appointed leadership roles; a candidate may be an active volunteer and be considered for this award and not have been an official “leader” in the organization to date.

2. Advancement of the Profession (30%)

State the most significant examples in which the nominee has contributed to the advancement of the legal marketing profession generally through development of new initiatives, writing of articles, books or trade publications, etc.

3. Role Model/Mentor (25%)

Provide examples or letters of support from members (no more than 3 – 5) who have benefitted from training or mentoring from this individual.

4. Professional Experience and Capability (15%)

Provide a summary with evidence and specific examples of significant achievements in the workplace or industry that demonstrate the applicant’s role in the advancement of his/her firm/company.

Entry Criteria and Rules

Please use the online ballot to nominate individuals who have achieved distinction through service in our region.

All LMA Southwest Region members in good standing are eligible to submit nominations and are encouraged to participate.

For the Member of the Year, Rising Star and Distinguished Legal Marketing Professional awards, current LMA members outside a member's firm or company must make the nomination.

Current LMASW Region Board members and current LMASW Recognition Program Committee members are not eligible for nomination.

Past recipients of a specific individual award may not be recognized in that award category additional times.

In addition to filling out an online ballot, you have the option to submit supplemental information including letters of recommendation to support your nomination(s).

Additional Information

  1. Entrants will not be notified of receipt of entries. Any supplemental information will not be returned. By entering, participants agree to the use of their names and descriptions or likeness of submitted materials in LMA Southwest Region advertising, media relations, web site and general marketing.
  2. An award of excellence will be granted to the winners. A list of winners will appear in the LMA Southwest Newsletter. Winners may also be given the opportunity to be interviewed for the newsletter.
  3. Awards may not be given in all categories, per the judges’ discretion.
  4. The judging panel will consist of six marketing and industry professionals. The panel will meet to review all submissions based on the entry criteria. Judges’ decisions are final.
