Why should members get involved in the LSC or LMA committees?

Getting involved in LMA—whether it be volunteering at an event handing out name badges or taking on a larger role—provides a lot of opportunity to meet new people, grow your experiences and broaden your professional network. Someone who’s a communications expert can stretch their skills by volunteering to help with event planning or budgets, which isn’t something they do in their day-to-day roles. It’s also a great to have a network of colleagues outside your firm or company that have varied experiences and ideas.

What are three words others would use to describe you?

Organized, reliable and creative

What’s your idea of a perfect day?

My perfect day is filled with time with family. My husband and I love to try new restaurants all the time – so it would certainly end at a favorite spot with a nice glass of red wine!

If you were to create a slogan for your life, what would it be?

One of my favorite motivational quotes is “don’t let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.” For some reason that’s always resonated with me, most likely because I’m a perfectionist. I’ve been able to take advantage of a lot of opportunities within my career and personal life by keeping this in the back of my mind all the time!

If you had a superhero power, what would it be?

Time travel. I love to travel so being able to visit different places throughout history would be the ultimate trip!

Why should members get involved in the LSC or LMA committees? I would recommend that any LMA member get involved, if not on the LSC level, at least on a committee. You really get to see the bigger picture and it’s such a great feeling to be able to contribute. Yes, we’re all insanely busy and yes, it’s crazy to think that volunteering for the LMA will make a difference – but it does. I’ve met such wonderful people who have taught me more about the profession than just about anyone else. When I’m having a particularly stressful day, I will likely call up an LSC member to vent. They just get it.

If you weren’t in legal marketing, what would you be doing instead?

This is going to sound weird, but I’d be an FBI profiler. I’ve recently been reading about the history of this profession, and feel like I’d be really good at it. My friends agree and think I’m crazy…. but so are most FBI profilers.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

I’m a huge Harry Potter nerd. I grew up with the books and still find myself getting lost in them.

What is your favorite travel destination and why?

This is tough. I love traveling and experiencing new cultures, food and people. I’d have to say Lebanon (I have lots of family there). Prague and London are up there, too.

Why should members get involved in the LSC or LMA committees?

Joining an LMA committee and eventually the LSC was career-altering for me. Not only is it a good way to learn more about the industry quickly, but it is also the perfect forum for idea sharing. Being involved has helped me make new friends who understand the role we play in law firms, and you can’t beat chatting with someone who just gets it. It has been a privilege to get to know such talented legal marketing professionals!

What’s the greatest bit of advice a parent or mentor has given you?

My first boss in the legal realm helped me keep things in perspective. He once told me that we’re not doctors, police officers or fire fighters who are saving lives – and that one line has stuck with me on difficult days. While it is important to take pride in our work and to work hard, it is also important to move on and not beat yourself up on the rare occasion when something goes wrong. Easier said than done, but this advice has helped me sleep at night!

What’s your idea of a perfect day?

Any combination of the following: 1. Loved ones 2. Sunshine 3. Lazy river 4. Ice cream

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

As a child, I was convinced I’d become a TV show host.

If you had a superhero power, what would it be?

I ALWAYS wish I could teleport. How awesome would it be to teleport to work or, better yet, teleport to vacation? Now that would be the life.

Why should members get involved in the LSC or LMA committees?

Members should get involved with LSC or LMA committees because the professional resources are endless! Not only do you learn so much by being involved and attending programs, you build this really great network of people you can tap when you have questions about how other firms approach various marketing and business development endeavors. Despite my years in marketing, and in legal marketing- I still tap into that network!

If you weren’t in legal marketing, what would you be doing instead?

If I were not a legal marketer, I would probably be a realtor. I love houses, absolutely everything about them. I like thinking about a house’s history, its potential and possibility. Watching market trends and thinking about the economics that influence them is something I have always done (even if I am too chicken to make investments!).

Pick something out of your pocket/purse and explain why it's important to you.

My phone! I know, it’s everyone’s response, but hear me out: for about five years, all I had was a smartphone. I had a computer that barely powered up, I didn’t have a house phone, I lived alone and it was literally my life line. I probably only use about ¼ of the technology, but it is my connection to work and life.

If you were to create a slogan for your life, what would it be?

There is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Okay, maybe I didn’t create that slogan, but, it’s true! Whether it’s an extraordinarily long work day (or week or month), raising twin newborns, or getting through any of life’s hardships, there is an end in sight. That always helps me to slow down, take stock of what is happening now, and to know that good or bad, right now is temporary.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

I am late. All the time. I have this horrible habit of leaving to get somewhere when I am actually supposed to be there. I try really hard to combat that in my work life, but in my social and family life- they know to tell me an earlier time!

Why should members get involved in the LSC or LMA committees?

I had a great boss when I first started out in legal marketing and a very supportive firm who encouraged me to get involved in LMA right away and join a committee, and I can honestly say it’s made all the difference in my career. By joining a committee, you really get to know your peers on a different level and build up a wonderful network of resources. If I ever have a question or need guidance, I know I have a core group of people I can reach out to for help.

What are three words others would use to describe you?

Organized, loyal and hopefully nice.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

I’m a small-town girl! I grew up in western Mass in a town with only 3,000 people. My neighbors were cornfields and cow pastures, and getting stuck behind tractors on the road is a common occurrence.

What is your favorite travel destination and why?

For the last few years, my husband Tom and I have been going to a different National Park each year. We’ve been to the Grand Canyon, Zion, Yosemite, Yellowstone and Acadia so far, and look forward to traveling to more!

Why should members get involved in the LSC or LMA committees?

Getting involved in LSC or LMA committees will give you the opportunity to work closely with other members. You will develop friendships with other members of the committee as you will spend time together and have shared experiences and goals. Additionally, I believe you will learn new skills/best practices that you can bring back to your “day” job.

What’s the greatest bit of advice a parent or mentor has given you?

Treat everyone you meet with kindness—it is a small world!

If you weren’t in Legal Marketing, what would you be doing instead?

I would likely be working in the fitness or real estate industries. They are both very interesting to me!

If you were to create a slogan for your life, what would it be?

Make it happen.

What is your favorite travel destination and why?

A small beach in New Jersey called Avalon. My family used to vacation there every summer and I have many wonderful memories of spending long days on the beach.

Why should members get involved in the LSC or LMA committees?

There’s something for everyone! The size of your team, firm or company doesn’t matter. If you want to learn from and engage with leaders in the legal marketing industry, this is the place to be. It is an organization where you can share ideas, engage on social media, volunteer and take on leadership positions to help advance your career.

What’s the greatest bit of advice a parent or mentor has given you?

Believe in yourself as much as others believe in you. Sometimes it’s hard for us to see the potential we have, and we often need to be pushed out of our comfort zones or take on tasks, responsibilities and challenges that we’re not sure we can handle. But, nothing compares to the feeling of accomplishment when we surpass our own expectations (and people get to say, “I told you that you could do it”).

What’s your idea of a perfect day?

Waking up and enjoying a cup of coffee by the ocean; going for a run or walk by the ocean; reading a good book by the ocean; dinner, cocktails and great conversations with family and friends by the ocean. There’s a theme here.

If you were to create a slogan for your life, what would it be?

It’s all good.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

I played football in middle school.

What’s your idea of a perfect day?

Shortening my to-do list at work and learning something new.

Live every day as if it were your last.

New York City. The greatest city on earth. Every visit leads to a new discovery.
