Emily Flowers has served as the editor and steward of this publication for three years and has seamlessly navigated the change from a chapter publication to one that serves the entire region. In addition, Emily served on the Board of Directors for the Capitals Chapter in both 2015 and 2016.
She has had many proud moments during her time as editor, but expanding the newsletter was particularly rewarding, “Working with everyone across Mid-Atlantic has been great. The quality of content that is being produced is really high and is a great representation of the skills and needs of the legal marketers throughout the region.”
Her strong understanding of legal marketing laid the groundwork for her success. Immediately following her graduation from Southern Methodist University in 2007, Emily landed her first job in legal marketing at Jackson Walker, an AmLaw 200 firm in Dallas, Texas, where she focused on event marketing and business development. In 2010, she moved back to Washington, DC, where she grew up, and made her way to McDermott Will & Emery. Since joining McDermott, Emily has held a number of roles, starting off as a communications coordinator, then a content marketing manager, and has recently stepped into a new role as brand manager for its tier-one health and life sciences practice.
She has seen tremendous growth in the role of legal marketing during her ten years in the field, “With so much competition among law firms, we really have to understand the market and the business challenges our clients are facing, and think strategically on how we can deliver timely content that showcases our lawyers as the right strategic partners to address those issues. The lawyers are looking to us to be a few steps ahead as to how to best reach their clients, and it is up to us to figure that out.”
At year-end, Emily will pass the baton of leading the Newsletter Committee to Ashley Rosenblatt, who has served on the committee for several years.
