This was an exciting year to be a member of LMA. In 2017, for the first time, legal marketers in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia came together as the LMA Mid-Atlantic Region. Together our 450+ members strengthened the value of our LMA membership to ensure the future growth and success of our community, while also navigating change together as the legal industry continues to transform. The Mid-Atlantic region is comprised of several components and is anchored by three Local Steering Committees – Baltimore, Capital and The Virginias.
Our reorganization into LMA’s new structure has enhanced member benefits through increased efficiency and collaboration including more programming, a broader network of peer members, exposure to more resources, tools and service providers, and increased diversity of leadership opportunities. The change we have experienced at LMA is similar to the changes we experience at our jobs where our organizations experience mergers, leadership turnover and restructures, and as part of the process change is managed.
While change timelines are not perfect and flexibility and agileness is needed, change is good, even when changing is hard.
This year the LMA Mid-Atlantic Region Board of Directors was committed to managing our regions reorganization to ensure your member value. Our commitment was reflected in our 2017 Board of Director Goals. I too, as your 2017 LMA Mid-Atlantic Region President, set goals for myself to communicate what I planned to accomplish this year. So how did we do?
What we accomplished this year meant that you had the opportunity to participate in a professional community that helps you stay abreast of trends in the constantly evolving legal marketing industry, maintain open channels for the interchange of ideas, and participate in diverse education, research and training to help you approach your complex work projects.
I hope that next year you continue to maximize your LMA benefits to help you grow personally and professionally. The more engaged you are in LMA, the more you get out of it.
I am excited next year to collaborate with our incoming 2018 LMA Mid-Atlantic Region President Debbie Leitner as she leads our region to continue building on the foundation we established.
