Nine years ago I made a decision that changed my life immeasurably for the better. I joined LMA. The informal marketing efforts that I first implemented at my firm grew, allowing me the opportunity to focus full-time on business development. By joining LMA, I gained access to valuable resources, met wise colleagues and made good friends.
As I think back, there is no doubt in my mind that participating in LMA has aided me professionally. Did you catch that? I did not just say being a member of LMA has helped me. Membership is the starting point. It is the active participation in LMA that has been the real difference in my career. So it is as President of the Capital Chapter that I am encouraging you to answer these two questions and then act in your own best interest: 1) What is LMA to you? 2) What do you want LMA to be?
As you thoughtfully consider how to respond, let me add that our greatest strength is in calling on one another for help, advice and motivation. By sharing your experience and talents with LMA, you are not only helping others but you are also exercising your voice into shaping the Capital Chapter into the organization that meets your needs as well.
Here are just a few ways that you can become fully engaged: attend the Annual Conference, Chapter Networking Events and Educational Programming; join a Committee; or write an article for Strategies: The Journal of Legal Marketing.
Are you already a part of the Chapter’s incredible network of dedicated legal marketing and business development veterans and service providers who volunteer their time to make LMA the legal marketing authority? Thank you for your service to LMA. Is there anyone you know that should become more fully engaged? If so, mentor them and invite them to an event.
We welcome your feedback, insight, and participation. I hope the next time I see you that you will let me know “What you want your LMA to be” to help make this best year yet for the Capital Chapter.
