President's Message - What Did You Do This Summer? - Diana Kroner

Summer was always a magical time growing up.  When else could we stay up late, run screaming down the street after the ice cream truck, and giggle with our friends for hours?  With the hectic pace of our daily lives, it's easy to forget what summer is all about.  This year, my children reminded me again of how great summer could be:  after months of building up their courage, my 6 year old jumped off the diving board for the first time and my 4 year old learned to ride a two-wheeler.  After each event, "Mommy, did you see that?!" could be heard all over the neighborhood.  How great it is to accomplish something new, or cross off that project that has been sitting on your to do list.  What did you do this summer?

The LMA Capital Chapter has been busy this summer, providing educational programming and a couple of great opportunities to network, most recently at the W Hotel for our annual Summer Social.  If you attended this event, you were one of the first people to receive a copy of our Service Provider Resource Guide.  This guide is packed with service provider recommendations and referrals in all of the major service categories that touch the legal marketing industry.  Every service provider listed in the guide was recommended by a Chapter member in our 2010 Service Provider Survey.  If you were not able to attend the Summer Social, copies will be available at our upcoming events.

We also are excited to announce that this year the LMA Capital Chapter will recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of our members in our first ever Your Honors Award presentation. Members will be recognized in three categories:  The Big Idea, Member of the Year, and Hall of Fame.  Information including eligibility, requirements, and deadlines will be emailed to you and posted to our website in the coming weeks.

Also this summer, the Program Committee has been busy planning the Chapter's half day conference scheduled on October 6.  The theme of this year's conference is "Keys to Differentiating Your Firm, Your Lawyers and Yourself: What it takes to deliver effective marketing and business development results in a busy marketplace."  The conference will feature a keynote presentation by John Plank of Commanding Presence, and a panel of area GCs that will discuss how legal marketers can help differentiate their firms from the competition.

The summer may be winding down, but it's never too late to jump right in or take the training wheels off.  Maybe you will be inspired by this issue's look at becoming a certified coach in "Getting Ahead," or you will use some of the strategies in "The Big Idea" to build a stronger team.

I hope you had a magical summer and I look forward to seeing you at one of upcoming fall events.
