Education Sessions Announced for the P3 Conference

Hosted by the Client Value SIG, the P3 Conference offers education and discussion focused on the business aspects of developing a successful law practice, including the disciplines of project management, pricing, project management and process improvement. It brings together law firm pricing and LPM experts, practice managers, business development and marketing professionals, those in corporate law departments, corporate procurement professionals, and product and service providers.

The keynote speaker for this year's conference is Gerry Riskin.

Gerry is a Canadian lawyer and Business School graduate with a global reputation as an author, management consultant and pioneer in the field of professional firm economics and marketing.

With more than 20 sessions to choose from, P3 attendees will have the opportunity to learn practical insights regarding the full range of project management, pricing, project management and process improvement disciplines.
Here are three of the compelling sessions that will be held at this year's P3 Conference:

New Research on AmLaw 200 Value and Profitability
Presented by Jim Hassett
This will be the first public presentation of the complete results of a study of exactly what firms are doing to deliver more value while protecting profitability. You will learn what managing partners, chairs and senior decision makers are saying about what’s working and what isn’t for LPM, pricing directors, knowledge management, outsourcing, and many other practice innovations.

The Golden Path to Developing Budgets: Helping Attorneys Develop Budgets and AFAs
Presented by Peter Secor (Workshop / Interactive)
How many times have you heard “We do not have enough information” or “I do not even know where to begin” or how about the classic “I don’t have time for that.” In this interactive session the group will share methods and approaches they use help attorneys develop and manage budgets. We will also take it to the next step and share how we guide attorneys on AFA structures.

Teaching Partners How to Fish: Unlocking Sustainable Profit Improvement through Better Pricing
Presented by Pier D’Angelo
A unique feature of professional services firms is that partners wear three hats: producer, manager and owner. The involvement of a broad and diverse group in pricing creates unique challenges for professional services firms seeking to improve their pricing. In an interactive workshop, Pier will explore topics including:

  • The business case for ongoing investment in pricing skills development;
  • How to identify and prioritize development of pricing competencies;
  • How to engage a smart, senior and sometimes unwilling audience;
  • Why a broader change management perspective is required to secure sustainable changes in pricing attitudes, behaviors and decisions across the firm; and
  • The key success factors for building partner pricing competency.
