Milwaukee City Group Update

I’m proud to announce that the Milwaukee City Group is experiencing a surge of activity and attendance for 2013! It all began with the greatly welcomed addition of Jennifer Rupkey of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP as co-chair of programs. Together, we formed a Steering Committee which includes Pete Smith of Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek, S.C., Jocelyn Gomez of Michael Best & Friedrich, and Jessica Gordon of Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. along with Jennifer and myself.  It’s an absolute delight to collaborate with several of Milwaukee’s finest marketers to continue improving and expanding our local LMA offerings for our fellow legal marketers.  Recognizing a need to continue our guest speaker forums yet create more avenues for networking, we devised a set schedule for the year which provides a balanced mix of informal roundtable discussions, guest speakers on pre-selected topics as well as a summer and winter social.

We kicked off the year with a strong start. Our February 19th roundtable on social media churned out a record attendance! So substantial, in fact, that we had to bring in additional tables and seating for our social media thirsty guests. Suffice it to say, social media is still a quandary for many law firms.  Topics discussed ran the gamut of: which forums to leverage, how best to keep your firm’s social sites current, concepts for training attorneys, how best to monitor content, and, of course, is it all worthwhile?!  Special thanks to Jocelyn Gomez for organizing this forum and also to the many, many new faces who joined us.

On April 16th, Steve Hughes of Hit Your Stride kindly presented “Influence: The Art & Science of Changing Minds.” Challenged to sell a pen to our attending peers within 90 seconds - and told they refuse to buy pens - Steve’s unique perspective on the skill of knowing and leveraging the decision-making approach of our buyers provided many valuable take-aways for guests including learning how to decipher whether your client is a Bottom Liner, Academic, or Joiner.  Once again, we experienced an incredible turnout – welcoming new faces as well as faces we haven’t seen in quite awhile. Special thanks to Pete Smith for organizing this forum.

Wisconsinites, stay tuned for the upcoming June 18th roundtable and the August 20th Summer Social.  Hopefully the weather will warm up by then!
