Writing for Legal Marketing

September 13, 2018  |  12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Whether you are writing to clients, drafting website content or emailing coworkers, communication skills are critical. Your writing style can define you and your career, making writing skills paramount for any professional. However, writing in the legal industry can differ from other businesses and can carry its own distinct challenges.

The Future Leaders September program will focus on improving writing skills and tailoring your communication style to the legal industry. Our speaker, Kathy King, is the director of media and public relations at Steptoe. The program will cover:

  • Best practices for writing press releases, blogs, client communications and other marketing collateral.
  • Avoiding commonly misused words and phrases in your writing.
  • Translating legal jargon for your audience.
  • Adhering to American Bar Association rules and guidelines.
  • Enhancing email etiquette.
Kathy KingKathy King has led the global public relations programs at two Am Law 100 firms. Along with serving as Steptoe’s spokesperson, she develops key messaging for internal and external audiences, and crafts strategic public relations plans aligning with business development objectives to increase visibility in top-tier media, and enhance reputation in key markets and industries. Before her transition to public relations, Kathy was an award-winning journalist who anchored more than 1,000 hours of live television news.
