Print is not dead! Printed handouts, particularly placemats, are an underused business development tool. Consulting and CPA firms have long recognized that a well-crafted 11x17 pitch handout can focus and transform a pitch by providing focus. Long PowerPoint decks tend to cause credential bloat and risk boring the prospect to death.
In this session, you will learn how narrowing down what you communicate can actually increase what the prospect remembers. We will review samples from outside legal for much needed inspiration. And we will discuss what legal buyers often find lacking in pitch meetings. Our findings are based on hundreds of legal buyer interviews in the last three years.
And don’t worry we aren’t ignoring digital. If your meeting is not face-to-face, we will talk about how to transform the printed version to an electronic format.

Founder & President
Right Hat LLC
Elonide Semmes founded Right Hat specifically to help professional service firms better articulate their intangible value. Where many branding agencies are hyper-focused on the design of marketing materials, she marries exceptional design with deep thinking on the business development process. Elonide maintains an ongoing dialogue with legal buyers including General Counsels and C-Suite executives and brings the voice of clients into every conversation.
With 30 years of experience behind her, Elonide cuts to the chase quickly. She helps law firms and other professional service firms identify what they do best, what buyers want and where competitors are staking their ground. As a result, her strategies make sense and her initiatives set firms apart.
Elonide is a recognized leader in legal services marketing. She is one of only 25 people to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for the International Legal Marketing Association (LMA). Since 2016, she has co-led the LMA’s task force on Artificial Intelligence and the Business of Law. She is a frequent speaker on the subject.
Before founding Right Hat, Elonide was Director of the Professional Services Practice at PARTNERS+simons, a Boston advertising agency, and a principal in the marketing design firm of Greenfield/Belser. Elonide was also a senior marketing director at Arthur Andersen, and at Beers & Cutler, one of the largest independent accounting firms in the Washington, D.C. area. While at Arthur Andersen, she worked on national product rollouts for the financial consulting services group, as well as the firm’s involvement with the White House Counsel on Small Business and major initiatives in the healthcare industry.
Elonide is active in pro bono efforts with a particular focus on legal aid and youth development. Her current pro bono work includes The Pro Bono Project of New Orleans, Impact 100 of New Orleans and Grow Dat Youth Farm. In her spare time, Elonide is a food critic, amateur chef and lover of adventure travel.
