Spotlight on Terry Moore, Chief Marketing Officer at Cox & Palmer

What is the primary responsibility of your current role?

In my role as CMO for Cox & Palmer, I am responsible for all things marketing. This includes the firm’s brand, communications, advertising, web and social media, market and client research, and regional business development initiatives. With locations throughout Atlantic Canada, I work closely with our team of provincial marketers and lawyers.

What do you love about your work?

I love the people. One of the greatest advantages in my role here at Cox & Palmer is that it spans the region. This means I work with lawyers in all of our locations through various industry and practice group initiatives. Although I’m based out of Halifax, I regularly spend time in our offices throughout the region, and really get to know people.

What is your biggest challenge at work?

How much time do we have? Just kidding. I think, like many legal marketers, one of the greatest challenges I face, is that I can’t please all the people, all the time. So, I don’t try. I do my best to provide opportunities for input, and take great comfort that, in the end, the diversity of perspectives that feeds into everything we do likely results in way more powerful outcomes than the alternative.

What advice would you offer others entering the field?

Understand that the law firm structure is likely quite different than where you are coming from. You will have to find new ways of operating in order to be successful. The best way to do this is to get to know the people, learn as much as you can about what they do, be as accessible as possible, and be efficient with your time and theirs.

When did you join LMA and how has it helped your career?

I joined LMA in 2013, shortly after taking on my role at Cox & Palmer. I have attended a variety of conferences and events since that time. It has helped me build a network (still growing) of colleagues that I can rely on for insight and advice when I need it, and a community of people who understand the day-to-day opportunities and challenges we face.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working? What are you passionate about outside of your work?

When I’m not working, I’m spending time with my family and friends. I have two daughters who are ringette players, so my husband and I spend a lot of time at the rink. I’m looking forward to better weather and paddle boarding season!
