What advice do you have for those legal marketers who are new to the field and looking to build their professional brands?
The best thing you can do to build your professional brand is to keep learning. Really know the industry, the major players and success factors. Get to know your clients (and your clients’ clients) and their businesses. Understand what drives leadership. What new technology is on the horizon that might change the legal landscape? What the heck is blockchain? Ask yourself “why do they care?” There is always more to know and the more you know, the more relevant information you can share and the more respect you will gain.
Can you tell us about how you got involved in LMA leadership? How has the LMA benefited your professional development
I originally joined LMA to network and learn more about legal marketing. I quickly learned it is a welcoming group of brilliant and creative individuals, and the programming is some of the best in the industry. Thanks to the people and programming, I was able to build industry knowledge, connections and friendships that have been invaluable. I joined the local leadership team to give back to this awesome group.
What is the best career advice that you ever received?
I have received so many terrific pieces of advice over the course of my career. My favorite is: “don’t be lazy.” While being lazy has never been a problem for me, it is surprising how many times that simple mantra encourages me to take that extra step that ends up making all the difference.
What do you love most about what you do?
I love the dynamic nature of my job. Every day I get to interact with intelligent, insightful people. Every day presents a new and different challenge. Every day I am presented with a problem that I can help solve. Every day legal technology changes... and I have a front row seat. How cool is that?!
What is your favorite quote?
I have two:
- “There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.” – Hemingway
- "The people who are crazy enough to believe they can change the world are the ones who usually do." - Nike
