The More the Merrier

On the fourth day of social & digital media we hear from Walter D. McCorkle of  Bradley Arant Boult Cummings. Walter is looking ahead to 2019 and how to incorporate more media and team members into your social and digital mix

What is on the list of your top priorities in social and digital media for 2019?

There are two main priorities that I would like to address in 2019: to bolster our firm’s social and digital media strategies. Video is a medium for content delivery that we have been wanting to incorporate into our social media and website strategy for some time; however, to be done well, there is a demand for time, technology/equipment and expertise. Our team is at a place where all three of these things are aligning which primes the firm to be able to brainstorm a legitimate video strategy. We are also looking to 2019 to enhance our holistic approach to our social media strategy. What I mean by that: incorporating additional team members from recruiting, HR, our attorneys, and our other staff members to become advocates for, and contributors to, our firm’s overall social media content production. Those contributions may come in some form of campaign planning and user (employee) generated content, or implementing tools to make sharing firm info, branding messages, and thought leadership content easier for attorneys, or crafting recruiting-oriented content to market to potential new hires. We really look forward to launching our employee/attorney advocacy tool which will put social media sharing at our attorneys’ fingertips and just a click away.

What is one resource you recommend to legal marketers who want to learn more about social and digital media?

Legal Marketing Association is my go-to resource when I am looking for guidance, education, feedback, opinions, etc. from other legal marketers who are also responsible for social and digital media at their law firms. Becoming a member of LMA and participating in the various Special Interest Groups (SIGs) has been invaluable. I am regularly getting answers to questions that I sometimes didn’t even know I had, and through the SIG email chains, I am constantly gleaning insights and enhancing my professional IQ.

Walter D. McCorkle is a Marketing Technology Coordinator at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP. He works closely with the firm’s attorneys and business development team to manage the content flow through the firm’s various communication channels. He oversees firm website activity and website content to promote the firm brand and our 500+ attorneys. He develops blog strategies and websites, and manages the firm’s ten current blogs. Walter executes communication strategies through the firm’s social media accounts, and conducts social media best practices presentations for the firm’s attorneys.
