We asked the LMA Northeast recipients of the 2018 LMA Annual Conference Scholarship Fund to tell us about their experience in the Big Easy. Here Philadelphia member Dawn Sheiker offers her top takeaways from the conference and provides advice to first-time attendees.
Tell us about the highlights of your LMA18 Conference experience.
It had been five years since I last attended LMA Annual. The market has changed so much. Five years ago, we were talking about establishing a sales culture within our firms and best practices for social media. Our profession has worked hard and gotten a welcomed seat at the table. We’re now focused on client-centric business strategy and are serving as revenue enablers to our firms. Exciting times!
What was your top takeaway from the LMA18 Conference?
Succession planning or lack thereof will make or break firms. As Baby Boomers retire at rapid speed, the firms that sustain and grow client relationships will step ahead. Unfortunately, most of us are behind the curve on this.
What advice would you give to someone who is attending the conference for the first time?
Review the session descriptions in advance and develop a strategy for attendance to ensure you are getting the best educational experience possible. I also encourage all conference attendees to connect and engage on social media before, during and after the conference. We’re fortunate to have a lively social media conversation throughout the year. It’s an easy way to stay in touch with colleagues and abreast of developments in the industry.
