What was your very first job, how old were you and what was the biggest takeaway from the experience?

I was 14 and worked in the maintenance department of an apartment complex managed by my mom’s company during the summer. I did everything from simple tasks like cutting grass and painting apartments to repairing roof damage and painting parking lot stripes. My biggest takeaway was the value of a good education.

At what point in your life did you realize you wanted to pursue a legal career and why are you passionate about your profession?

I sort of stumbled upon legal marketing. At the time, I was looking for something where I could challenge myself and grow professionally, and this career allows me to do that.

What time do you typically get up on a workday, and what’s your ideal morning routine to get it off to a great start?

I usually wake up around 6:30 a.m. and help get my kids ready (dressed and helping with breakfast). Once in the office, I go through my inbox and read the various client and industry news feeds I’ve set up.

What’s something about your job that might surprise people?

I think my job itself actually surprises most people. Most people aren’t familiar with what the job of a legal marketer entails, so I often have to explain to them the different aspects involved directly related to attorney marketing, business development, and coaching and firm marketing (traditional and digital) and PR.

What’s the greatest personal or professional obstacle you’ve had to overcome, and how did you do it?

I would have to say entering the world of legal marketing. As all legal marketers know, this is a unique industry with specific challenges. Proving my value and being available to the attorneys helped me establish and maintain rapport with them and earn a "seat at the table."

What are your best productivity hacks?

I love Trello. Trello is a project management tool which creates lists, tasks, and compiles notes for the various projects I’m managing.

What’s a leadership skill you’ve learned the hard way?

The importance of prioritizing your tasks. Make a list every day. Taking the time at the end of the previous day to outline things you need to focus on helps eliminate lost time and save your energy for the big decisions when you must handle something important that wasn’t originally planned.

What are some of your hobbies or favorite things to do in your free time?

I enjoy watching and playing beach volleyball.

Tell us about some of your volunteer efforts in the community and why you support those causes/organizations.

As an alum and former employee, I volunteer coach Brother Martin High School’s Beach Volleyball club team as a way to stay connected to the school. I also am currently serving as the New Orleans Chapter President of the American Marketing Association.

You’re taking me out to a business lunch in [your city]. Where are we going and what do you recommend I order?

We would definitely need to eat at Meril, a Chef Emeril Lagasse concept located in the Warehouse District. It’s hard to pick a go-to entrée, but roasted cauliflower and the brussels sprouts for the sides.

What’s one of the smartest purchases you’ve ever made? What’s one of the dumbest?

My Nest Thermostat is literally the “smartest” purchase I’ve ever made. Not only has it helped my energy bill but it has learned my home tendencies. A Keurig…I never use the thing!

Can you name someone who has had a great impact on you as a leader, or someone who has been a mentor to you in your life or career? How have they changed your outlook?

My dad. He’s always stressed the importance of doing a thorough job and working to the best of your ability. Today, I try and remember those key values in every part of my job.

What is something you are absolutely determined to do in life?

Family is the most important thing. Being a good husband and dad is #1.
