Making Time for #MoreThanLegalMarketing

With work and personal lives blurring together under the same roof, it is more important than ever to remind yourself to take a break. With that in mind, here is a list of books, movies, TV shows, and apps that can help you escape into a world that includes “more than legal marketing”!

Do You Mind If I Cancel? (Things That Still Annoy Me) by Gary Janetti

A New York Times Best Seller, this book from Gary Janetti (writer, producer and Instagram celebrity) walks you through a series of essays hilariously detailing Gary’s life growing up gay in NYC. A fun, easy read, great for vacation, and finally something that doesn’t need to be experienced virtually! And for fans who may have missed Gary and his husband Brad Goreski reenacting their daily visit to Starbucks during the first month of quarantine, welcome to Bradbucks!

Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood, Trevor Noah

Hiding from the government as an illegal baby during apartheid. Jumping from a moving vehicle during an attempted kidnapping. Developing a successful career in pirating CDs and DJing parties. These are just some of the anecdotes that give us a glimpse into Trevor Noah’s life in South Africa before he became the intrepid and funny host of the Daily Show. Every single one of his stories will move you, inspire you, and make you cry laughing. You will not want to put down this book!

You Raised Us - Now Work With Us: Millennials, Career Success, and Building Strong Workplace Teams by Lauren Rikleen

Wondering how a workforce comprised of wildly different generations can better work together? This innovative book is a vital resource for Millennials, Gen Xers, and Baby Boomers alike who are looking to separate myths from reality and find practical advice, based on hard data, on how to effectively retain and develop the next generation of leaders.

Ocean’s 8 (Netflix)

In this epic heist comedy, Debbie Ocean, younger sister of the infamous and legendary conman Danny Ocean, leads a group of seven extraordinarily skilled women in their biggest job yet – stealing a 150 million dollar diamond necklace from the annual Met Gala. The star-studded cast includes Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter. Grab some popcorn and sit down with your whole family for a fun and easy watch!

Marriage Story (Netflix)

Written, directed, and produced by Academy Award nominated filmmaker, Noah Baumbach, Marriage Story provides a penetrating look at the crumbling relationship and escalating divorce of a stage director and an actress who fight for custody of their child all the while residing on opposite coasts of the country. This movie will make you laugh and smile just as much as it makes you cry.

Groundhog Day (Netflix)

A legal marketer finds themself inexplicably living the same day over and over again. Wait, that’s our lives! It does share an uncanny resemblance to the plot of Groundhog Day though. In this movie, a frustrated weatherman named Phil covers the story of Punxsutawney’s groundhog, also named Phil. While incredibly charming on screen, Phil is a total nightmare off screen until he is forced to live the same day over and over again and learn a few important lessons on the way. This movie is endearing, funny, and most of all, very entertaining for the whole family!

Defending Jacob (Apple TV)

Based on a best-selling book, and starring Chris Evans, Michelle Dockery, and Jaeden Martell, this gripping American Crime miniseries focusses on the Barber family whose life is completely turned upside down when their son is accused of murdering a fellow classmate in cold blood. Did he do it? Watch and find out!

Succession (HBO/Crave)

With a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series already under its belt, this high-stakes and captivating drama follows the dysfunctional Logan family as they fight each other for control of their family business which just happens to be the biggest media and entertainment conglomerate in the world. Watch this show for its dark humour, razor-sharp writing, and the exceptional performances of characters that you will love to hate.

The Big Flower Fight (Netflix)

The Big Flower Fight is perhaps the most joyful one hour of television available right now! Following a similar style to The Great British Bake Off (sans the one and only, Mary Berry!), The Big Flower Flight shows off 10 pairs of florists/sculptors/garden designers, who in less than one day, brilliantly design and create giant floral sculptures. This show has everything: adorable hosts with British accents, expert judges with an insane eye for detail, every flower, plant, and type of grass you’ve ever heard of, and some serious tear-inducing artistry! For those who have already watched, enjoy this hilarious article from Vulture that explains the greatness that is the giant insects and huge hairy beasts!
