James Moorhouse, Marketing Manager, Hart King
1. How did you start working the legal industry?
I applied to an advertisement and got hired eventually by a firm I was hoping to work for in 1999 as it is was one of my first jobs out of college. I started doing administration work for the law firm although I applied for the marketing position. Within a year, I was in the marketing position and out of the administration position, heading up the firm's marketing efforts for several years to come.
2. What advice would you offer to someone new to the industry?
Marketing is always changing, the marketing I did back in 1999 is almost non-existent today so you have to adapt with the times. Learn as you grow into your position because the exciting thing about marketing is something new is always around the corner. Marketing is about advertising, business development, public relations and building those business relationships for years to come. Continue to educate yourself for the next big challenge.
3. Why did you join LMA and is it the same reason you are still a member?
Believe it or not, I just joined LMA in March 2015. I had wanted to join and finally decided I should do it. I joined because I attended my first conference last year in San Diego and feel it is a good career move to be part of LMA for years to come.
4. What would people be most surprised to learn about you?
That I was actually born in London, England and the majority of my family still resides there.
5. What is your favorite thing to do when you are not at work?
You are always working when it comes to legal marketing, emails to phone as marketing is open 24/7. However, when not working too much I enjoy being with my wife of over 11 years and my two young children, they are a blessing.
