Change is in the Air – Can You Navigate It?

Welcome to the LMA Mid-Atlantic Region!

It is an exciting time to be a LMA member. In 2017, for the first time, legal marketers in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia have come together to form the LMA Mid-Atlantic Region. The combination of our more than 450 members strengthens the value of LMA membership and ensures the future growth and success of our vibrant community, while also allowing us to navigate change as the legal industry continues to transform. The Mid-Atlantic region is comprised of several components and is anchored by three Local Steering Committees – Baltimore, Capital and The Virginias.

As a community we are experiencing change as we reorganize into the new LMA structure. The benefits of our new structure mean increased efficiency and collaboration including more programming, a broader network of peer members, exposure to more resources, tools and serve providers, and increased diversity of leadership opportunities.
The transformation that LMA is experiencing mimics what we experience at our jobs. Our firms and companies experience mergers, leadership turnover and restructuring and as part of the process we manage change.

When restructures and reorganizations happen, timelines are not perfect; at times we are working in the gray, and pieces are constantly moving. While change is good, changing is hard, and as we navigate through, it means becoming comfortable being uncomfortable and being okay with not everything being figured out. The best part of new experiences is that it brings opportunity including growing, learning and meeting new people.

The LMA Mid-Atlantic Region Board of Directors is committed to managing our regions reorganization to ensure your member value. Our commitment is reflected in our 2017 board goals:

  • Cultivate a community culture throughout the Mid-Atlantic region that embraces the ideals of One LMA, reinforces a consistent National LMA experience, and serves the needs of its members and the profession
  • Develop processes and procedures for the regional board that establish a strong foundation for growth in the Mid-Atlantic region
  • Effectively communicate national LMA changes and their value, and serve as a resource for advice and strategic guidance to local Mid-Atlantic groups

As your 2017 Mid-Atlantic Region President, I set goals for myself too to communicate what I plan to accomplish this year:

  • Make our new structure work
  • Use best practices
  • Document, document, document

What does all this mean to you? You have the opportunity to participate in a professional community that helps you stay abreast on trends of the constantly evolving legal marketing industry, maintain open channels for the interchange of ideas, and participate in diverse education, research and training to help you approach your complex work projects.

I challenge you to set as your personal 2017 goal to commit to lifelong learning and maximize your LMA benefits to help you reach your goal. The more you put into LMA, the more you get out of it. The below infographic has ideas for how you can maximize your LMA benefits.
