A Message from LMA New York Chair Brandie Knox

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of LMA New York, we truly hope that you are coping as well as possible and, most importantly, are healthy during this unprecedented crisis.

Your local LMA New York group and your LMA colleagues are here to help you, be it through sharing new best practices as we all adapt to working remotely, or simply connecting as colleagues and friends.

We plan to continue to be an important resource for our members. While LMA will not be scheduling any in-person events for the foreseeable future, we still plan to offer programs that you can join in from home. Some of them will be general offerings, in place of our monthly luncheons, and others will be more specific from our SIG groups. We urge you to support these initiatives, both by participating and by offering ideas for future programs.

We also encourage you to volunteer to help lead one of our Shared Interest Groups (SIGs) or LMA NY subcommittees. As a 100% volunteer-based organization, we rely on engaged members to help us maintain and expand our stellar reputation for quality programming, networking opportunities and value-added content. Most of our planning meetings are usually held by phone anyway, so they will be able to operate as normal during this unsettling time.

Our SIGs include:
Business Development (BD) – focusing on client development strategies, competitive intelligence, profitability and many other key issues that impact BD professionals. Co-Chairs: Patrick Wildes and Ellen Page.

CMO – for C-suite or first-chair directors at law or professional service firms. This SIG explores best practices, industry trends and more from the highest level of legal marketing. Co-Chairs: Despina Kartson and Dawn Longfield.
 - provides professional development and networking opportunities for law firm marketing professionals with fewer than ten years of experience at a law firm or agency. Co-Chairs: Christopher Raymond and Rachel Mazzaferro.

Marketing Technology – features first-hand looks at digital tools and their real-world application for marketing and business development. Co-Chairs: Dean Carey and Melanie Canto.

Small Firm - assists professionals at firms with fewer than 100 lawyers or less than five marketing professionals and addresses the legal marketing challenges and limitations they face. Co-Chairs: Kim Connolly and Anca Munteanu.

Special Events and Venues - for professionals tasked with organizing events or identifying venues for law firm-related functions. Members of this SIG often visit exclusively exciting new locations to host business events. Co-Chairs: Kelly Reidy and Lane Claghorn Burgess.

Our Subcommittees include:
Programming – help determine and plan our annual program calendar. We consistently offer our members top-notch, timely programs. You are welcome to join the subcommittee or simply submit a topic you think would be valuable to our members. Chair: John Bologna.

Communications - at the center of everything we do for the LMANE, from our web presence, to social media, to the emails you receive. Volunteers have an opportunity to create, write and edit content, and to report on LMA events. You’ll have a great opportunity to expand your network. Chair: Tom Mariam.

 - lays the foundation for our local group by finding sponsors to support our activities, from the monthly luncheons to our Summer Soiree, Kickoff and Holiday Party events. Chair: Shota Adamia.

Membership Engagement – develops ways to reach out to and involve our members at all levels, as well as attracting new members. Help us maximize the value of our membership.  Co-Chairs: Jacob Eidinger and Carly Halpin.

I had hoped to see many of you last month in Denver at the LMA’s Annual Conference. As most of you know, LMA has rescheduled its signature event for October 16-18, 2020, still in Denver. We hope for many reasons that we can all gather together there at that time.

I am honored to serve as the 2020 New York Local Steering Committee chair. I look forward to getting to know all of you, even if we cannot do it in person for a while. You can always reach out to me with any questions or ideas, or to simply become better acquainted at brandie@knoxdesignstrategy.com

Similarly, I encourage you to get to know the members of our Local Steering Committee, who play a vital role in supporting me and all of LMA New York:

2020 New York Local Steering Committee

LMA New York will continue to serve your needs and bring everyone in the legal marketing profession together as best as possible during this watershed period.

Wishing everyone to be safe and healthy,

Brandie Knox, 2020 New York Local Steering Committee Chair
