The Society brings a voice to justice issues affecting the public and the legal profession. Under the provisions of the Legal Profession Act, the Law Society is responsible for the licensing, professional conduct and discipline of the more than 11,000 lawyers in BC.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Manager, Communications & Public Affairs will lead a small team in planning, developing and delivering corporate communications strategies and initiatives for The Law Society of British Columbia (LSBC). Specifically, you will create and implement strategies for handling issues management, media relations, print and online publications, community relations and events management. Your ultimate goal will be to build and enhance the already well-established profile and reputation of LSBC with a wide variety of stakeholders, regional media and government entities. This all-encompassing corporate communications role for an award winning communications department requires you to have a proven track record of success. You are recognized by your peers and contemporaries as a strategic thinker with a practical, hands-on approach to managing people and resources. Additionally, you are confident in providing counsel to management while at the same time rolling up your sleeves to get the job done. In this unique and challenging position, the Manager will also be responsible for ensuring that adequate and appropriate information is provided to internal and external stakeholders, as required, and will be a representative to a broad range of media and other audiences, including governments.
Requirements:
As the ideal candidate you bring 5 to 7 years of experience in a proactive communications leadership role where meeting deadlines has been a way of life. You bring proven success collaborating in an environment of high-caliber professionals. You also have demonstrated competency in dealing with a range of stakeholders, including the public, other justice organizations, government and media. Experience with long term corporate communications planning will also be fundamental to your success. You are a consummate professional with well developed consultative and interpersonal competencies.
