LMA Ohio: Going Green!
With sustainability and corporate responsibility now an important part of so many clients’ strategic agendas, many law firms are looking for ways to “go green.” Successful green initiatives typically involve all departments - from marketing to office administration, IT, HR, finance and the library – as well as staff, paralegals and lawyers.
On Thursday, June 12, 2008 Alvidas Jasin, assistant district manager for The Climate Project (www.TheClimateProject.org) presented "Going Green: What Law Firm Marketing Departments Can Do To Save The Planet" at The Forum Conference Center in Cleveland. Alvidas shared with a crowd of LMA Ohio members, legal administrators, IT professionals, students and others an overview of global warming and some of the best green practices currently in place at law firms.
In 2007, Alvidas was selected to participate in an intensive education program on global warming and spent three days in Nashville being trained by former vice president Al Gore and a team of climate scientists; he is now authorized to present a live version of Mr. Gore’s slide show on the causes and impacts of global warming. Alvidas is the director of business development at Thompson Hine LLP and has presented on this topic across the country, including at several law firms and at conferences for LMA (New York City), the Association of Legal Administrators (Washington, D.C. and Orange County, California), LegalTech (Los Angeles), the Law Firm CIO Forum (New York City) and the International Legal Technology Association.
During his presentation to LMA Ohio, Alvidas entertained and enlightened the crowd while providing them with eye-opening news concerning global warming. He covered the impact that each individual person and each law firm as a whole can have on our environment. Following the presentation, Alvidas distributed to attendees an in-depth list of what many law firms are currently doing to “go green.” The information and ideas he shared undoubtedly encouraged attendees to take into consideration the ways in which their own firms can become greener workplaces.
