    September LMANW Program: Growth Is Dead, Now What?

    *Note: The dates for this program have been changed. Correct dates are below

    The legal industry is changing and the battle between law firms for increased market share is fierce, particularly in the wake of the 2008 global financial crisis. Join us for an informative breakfast session led by Bruce MacEwen of Adam Smith, Esq. and his business partner, Janet Stanton. The author of Growth is Dead, Now What? and the new book, A New Taxonomy: The Seven Law Firm Business Models, Bruce will lead a discussion about trends in the legal market and the different ways that law firms are responding to the pressures and challenges they face. Topics will include:

    • What it means to say “growth is dead”;
    • The increasing dispersion of results among firms, with some firms pulling away from the pack while others struggle to tread water;
    • The unprecedented importance of managing a firm’s business as a business including the imperative of strong, talented, independent C-suite professionals;
    • Reconceiving the role of marketing away from a support position and to co-equal stature with finance and operations, integral to strategic planning and to the design and delivery of professional services;
    • Bruce will introduce his conceptual structure of various types of law firms as laid out in his new book, A New Taxonomy: The Seven Law Firm Business Models.

    Bruce and Janet are national speakers and consultants to the legal industry on issues related to law firm economics and business management. Each registrant will receive a copy of Bruce’s book, A New Taxonomy: The Seven Law Firm Business Models. This event promises to be a lively and thought-provoking exploration of the issues facing law firms and we hope that legal marketers will invite managing partners, practice group leaders, COOs, and other members of their firm’s management team to this event.
