Maximize Your Effectiveness as a Legal Marketer - Nov. 2007
The Minnesota Chapter of the Legal Marketing Association (LMA-MN) met on November 14 to discuss ways to be effective legal marketers and to celebrate those who have demonstrated excellence.
A panel of four seasoned legal marketing professionals shared advice on a variety of topics aimed at making the most of members’ roles in their respective firms. The panel included Sally Schmidt, president, Schmidt Marketing; Kathleen Leach, director of marketing, Faegre & Benson; Andrea Wood, director of marketing, Schechter Dokken Kanter; and, Adam Severson, director of business development, Dorsey & Whitney LLP. They explored:
- Enhancing your professionalism—dress for success, take advantage of continuing education, attend conferences and Webinar, read what the attorneys read, expand your network, ask for feedback from attorneys, treat your attorneys like clients
- Understanding key aspects of firm financials—ask for information, know the model for compensation, understand the partnership structure, know who is productive, let financial information promote action
- Obtaining buy-in for initiatives—bring in firm leaders, give them the best idea they ever had, show value of activity toward result
- Working with members of the entire firm—give attorneys key messages, train where needed
