Cooley Godward Kronish is seeking a New York-based Senior PR Specialist. This individual will work closely with attorneys who focus on areas including emerging companies and venture capital, intellectual property, bankruptcy, real estate and commercial litigation. This position reports to the Firm’s Vice President of Media Relations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and maintain relationships with key business, trade and legal reporters on behalf of the Firm in order to secure positive media coverage.
- Identify proactive story angles and opportunities through meetings with attorneys and marketing team members.
- Draft and issue press releases and other written material targeting media and Web audiences.
- Media train and coach attorneys on preparing for an interview and provide general media training tips and guidelines.
- Work closely with select practice group leaders and marketing managers to implement creative PR programs that support that group’s business development and marketing objectives.
- Develop editorial calendars for key markets and practice groups, and proactive pitch opportunities for these.
- Draft and submit nominations on behalf of Cooley attorneys, practice groups and offices.
- Schedule and participate in interviews between attorneys and media.
- Provide counsel on topics such as angle development, creative PR mailers, media events, etc.
- Participate in on-going internal education programs regarding media relations.
- Work closely with the marketing team to develop integrated campaigns which include media relations components.
Specific requirements
- SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Required:
- • Minimum five (5) years media relations experience.
- • Knowledge of law firm environment and working in a partnership structure.
- • Knowledge of business, technology and legal media.
- • Excellent writing and editing skills.
- • Excellent interpersonal skills.
- • Ability to work independently.
- • Superior judgment and decision-making skills.
- • Knowledge of technology and life sciences sectors, as well as tradition New York-style practices including bankruptcy, real estate, tax and general litigation.
- • Ability to travel firm-wide, but primarily to the Firm’s East Coast offices, in Boston, Washington, DC and Reston, VA.
- • After orientation at Cooley, exhibit proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Cooley applications.
- • Following training, exhibit proficiency in Firm marketing systems software.
- Preferred:
- • College degree in either Business, Journalism, Communications, English, marketing or related-field.
- • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment, with a working knowledge of professional services sectors.
