Leading independent Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg) law firm seeks a US Business Development Manager for its New York office.

The US Business Development Manager will be expected to take on independent initiatives and projects geared towards the US market, and develop new projects in furtherance of the firm's international business development strategy with minimal supervision. The US Business Development Manager will report to (1) the firm's International Business Developer, based in Amsterdam, in connection with firm-wide international strategy; and (2) the managing partner of the New York office with respect to locally based projects. The US Business Development Manager will also work closely with the marketing & communications team in the Benelux offices, and travel to one or more of these offices a minimum of once per quarter.

 The US Business Development Manager will follow and monitor US legal trends, working closely with the International Business Developer, to maximize the firm's potential internationally. The US Business Development Manager will also be responsible for creating an actionable business plan for the NY office. The US Business Development Manager will work closely with the New York managing partner to identify new business opportunities (vis a vis both the New York office and the Benelux offices), and will also work with individual fee-earners on personal business goals.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

-        Managing the New York office marketing budget

-        Coordinating events, seminars, and PR activities, for both the NY practice group as well as visiting partners from the firm's "home" offices in Brussels, Luxembourg, Amsterdam, and Rotterdam

-        Creating/updating profiles for NY office fee-earners

-        Coordinating internal communication about the NY office on the Intranet

-        Initiating relationships with international law firms in conjunction with the International Business Developer

-        Identifying new US-based business opportunities for the NY practice group as well as the firm overall

-        Coordinating NY practice group proposals/RFP's/RFI's

-        Coordinating sponsorship of projects & networks in the US

-        Participating in the firm's account management program as related to the US

-        Facilitating attorney participation in the ABA

 

Specific requirements

  • Undergraduate degree; MBA or JD a plus.
  • Four to six years of experience in business development/marketing at a recognized law firm or accounting firm.
  • Knowledge of the US legal industry.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take the lead on self-generated initiatives.
  • Experience with PR/internal corporate communications.
  • Familiarity with client feedback surveys and/or event/database software a major plus.
