The Public Relations Senior Associate will enjoy a highly visible position providing PR support nationally to Seyfarth Shaw LLP, one of America’s leading full-service law firms. Seyfarth Shaw is an Am Law 100-ranked firm with over 750 attorneys located in nine offices throughout the United States, including: Chicago; New York; Boston; Washington, D.C.; Atlanta; Houston; Los Angeles; San Francisco and Sacramento; as well as Brussels, Belgium. The firm provides a broad range of legal services to clients from virtually every industry and segment of the country’s business and social fabric.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing the firm's message platform and integrating it into press releases and other external communications;
- Work with attorneys to develop thought leadership profiles and assist the Public Relations Manager with establishing them with editors, reporters and producers as go-to spokespeople on particular issues;
- Draft press releases, assist with developing and placing bylined articles, and draft items for the firm Web site and other communications channels;
- Coordinate and assist with the placement of stories, articles and press releases;
- Update and maintain media databases;
- Monitor press coverage and alert attorneys to coverage of their cases, publication of their articles, and when they are quoted in the media;
- Identify editorial opportunities for articles and commentary; and
- Draft and edit items for Intranet, Web site, and other Business Development projects.
Specific requirements
- Superior writing and editing skills are essential. Must have an interest in the legal field and the media that cover business and law. The qualified candidate will work closely with partners and associates and should, therefore, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to inspire confidence. Must be highly professional, dedicated, and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team (both the PR function in New York and the national Marketing and Business Development Department), thrive in a client-service environment, possess the ability to juggle multiple priorities, and demonstrate strong project management skills.
- Undergraduate degree required; at least 3–5 years of relevant communications/PR experience in a law firm or other professional services environment preferred (agency or other in-house experience will also be considered). Outstanding verbal and written communications skills are imperative, as are the ability to work well in a team environment consisting of attorneys, other marketing and business development colleagues and administrative professionals; acting with a high degree of integrity and maintaining confidentiality; ability to handle and prioritize multiple assignments; and the ability to work under pressure with interruptions and tight deadlines. Interested candidates must also have a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of applications; knowledge of InterAction and DOCS Open are a plus.
