About the Speakers

The public relations campaigns Cheryl Bame conducts have achieved name recognition and new business for AmLaw 100 law firms, Fortune 500 companies and major real estate developers, hospitals and non-profit organizations. To serve her clients, she leads a talented and creative team of professionals in the areas of public relations, marketing, design and business development.

Prior to entering the field of public relations, Bame worked in the news media for nine years. She is a former television reporter, anchor, producer and assignment desk manager at various television stations around the country. While she loved her on-air time, what she likes even more is leveraging her knowledge of how the media works to achieve significant media and public exposure for her clients.

She is a graduate of the University of Arizona in Tucson where she studied journalism and Spanish. When not chasing down reporters and running her own company, Bame is very involved in the Los Angeles Chapter of the Legal Marketing Association where she has served on the board for four years, including most recently as president.

John M. Byrne is the director of communications for Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP in Philadelphia, which has grown to more than 625 lawyers following its recent merger with Chicago-based Gardner Carton & Douglas. Byrne has nearly two decades of experience in the media, marketing and public relations arenas, much of it spent in the legal industry.

In LMA, Byrne has served on the national board of directors as treasurer and treasurer-elect, including a stint as co-chair of the dues realignment task force that was one of the main reasons for the organization’s explosive membership growth during the past few years.  In addition, he served as a member-at-large for two years on the Southeastern Chapter’s board of directors and coordinated its SELMA awards in 2004 and 2005.

Byrne holds a law degree from Loyola University Chicago and practiced for two years at Hinshaw & Culbertson in Chicago. He also has a journalism degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, where he was editor in chief of the Daily Northwestern. He lives in Villanova, Pa., with his wife and 9-year-old triplets.
