LMA Chicago was the first chapter to initiate many activities:
- Regional Conferences. Started in 1995 and held every other year, LMA Chicago presents a day-program focusing on trends affecting law firm marketing and marketing practitioners. The program is designed to supplement the annual LMA conference and allow those members who cannot attend the annual meeting to broaden their education and increase their professional network. These programs continually attract legal and other professional services marketers, consultants, service providers and attorneys. The regional conference concept proved so successful that it has been adopted by many other LMA chapters.
- Law School Programs. LMA Chicago supports an innovative marketing program for law students – the first of its kind and developed in 1998 by one of our own members – at Chicago-Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology. "Client Development and Client Relationship Management: The Key to Your Success as a Lawyer" is a program that teaches law school students how to prepare an individual marketing plan with the basic concept that marketing yourself to find a job is very much the same as marketing yourself to develop a practice. The program offers the opportunity for students, who prepare and submit a marketing plan, to compete for two $1,000 scholarships which are supported by LMA Chicago and one of our members, Nancy Roberts Linder. In 2002, the Chicago Chapter earned the "Chapter of the Year" award for this program.
Chicago Bar Foundation Partnership. LMA Chicago formed an alliance with The Chicago Bar Foundation to provide marketing consulting assistance to the CBF organizations. This was an outstanding opportunity for our members to use their marketing know-how to assist the greater community.
