LMA – Bay Area Chapter Announces 2002 Your Honors Awards Winners
Marketer Susan Roe and Attorney Milt Stewart Walk Away with Coveted Rella Lossy Professional Achievement Awards
SAN FRANCISCO, October 25, 2002 – Today, the Legal Marketing Association (LMA) - Bay Area Chapter held its Eighth Annual "Your Honor Awards," celebrating the innovative and thoroughly modern achievements of Bay Area law firm marketing professionals and the overall accomplishments made in legal communications during the past year. The awards, given in a variety of categories, such as Advertising, Community Service, Identity, Professional Development, Promotion / Collateral, Public Relations, Special Events and "Wildly Creative," recognize original and strategic campaigns in the industry by Bay Area law marketing and public relations professionals.
"Legal marketing is becoming more critical to the success of law firms as the economic environment is continuously changing," said Michelle O'Driscoll, marketing manager for Bingham McCutchen and president of the LMA – Bay Area Chapter. "As law firms become more sophisticated business entities, the individuals responsible for communications and business development have become indispensable to the forward-thinking firms."
In addition to the general category awards, special honors are given every year in memory of former LMA - Bay Area Chapter member Rella Lossy. The Rella Lossy Professional Achievement Awards are given to a marketing professional and an attorney who have demonstrated a long-term commitment to law firm marketing.
This year's Rella Lossy Professional Achievement Award for a marketing professional went to Susan Roe of Gordon & Rees. As the organization's senior marketing council and former chapter president, Roe’s dedication to law firm marketing is evident. She serves the chapter in numerous capacities and is dedicated to promoting and educating the legal community on the importance of legal marketing.
Milt Stewart of Davis Wright Tremaine (DWT) was recognized with the Rella Lossy Professional Achievement attorney award. A partner with the firm, Stewart has played an important role in the firm's marketing efforts and was instrumental in the merger between Davis Wright Todd Reece & Jones and Regan Tremaine to form DWT. He has served on the firm’s Executive Committee for 13 of the 16 years he’s been with the firm and has been a member of the Strategic Growth Committee since its inception. Recently appointed to the firm’s newly created position of business development partner, Stewart works with DWT attorneys on an individual, office-wide and practice group basis in the area of strategic growth.
Dave Bruns of Thelen Reid & Priest was honored as this year's recipient of the "LMA Member of the Year" award, presented for outstanding contributions to the chapter and the legal marketing community. As the president-elect and the current program co-chair, Bruns has made a significant contribution to the organization. Since accepting his current position, the chapter has experienced a 50 percent increase in attendance, drawing an average of 90 Bay Area professionals to its programs. In addition, Bruns was a driving force behind the success of this year’s Technology Program, which boasted more than 25 sponsors, four speaking sessions, and 20 speakers.

Founded in 1991, the Legal Marketing Association (LMA) - Bay Area Chapter has grown to 140 members, including law firm marketing professionals, attorneys, legal administrators and other professional service firms and providers to the legal profession. LMA is a nonprofit professional association dedicated to educating members on best marketing practices, promoting professional standards in law firm marketing, and providing a critical networking forum. LMA - Bay Area hosts monthly educational programs in San Francisco and the Silicon Valley on a variety of topics.
