First Place: Goulston & Storrs

Jeopardy Wins the Show

The judges confirmed that Goulston & Storrs showed originality and professional execution with the added  advantage of interactivity when they gave the firm’s In-House Jeopardy Game Your Honor first prize in the Promotional Events category.

The 185-attorney firm presented the game, an exact take-off of the long-running TV show, for the Association of Corporate Counsel Northeast (ACCNE) in Boston and set a high bar in combining intellectual content with fun. The goal was to get on corporate counsels’ shor t lists and pave the way for business development, and the resulting congratulations and approval indicate a home run if not a grand slam!

The firm took the creative approach in response to research that showed ACCNE’s members were hunting for an interesting summer social event instead of a more routine educational approach with “talking heads” and panel discussions. The Goulston & Storrs business development team overcame some internal cautions about the approach by grouping contestants into teams of three rather than posing individuals against one another. Four topics, E-discovery, Employment Law, Ethics, and Executive Compensation were strategically chosen to highlight services ACCNE was interested in and the law firm wanted to sell. The final category, “Hot Topics,” appealed to the good humor of all, eliciting barbs and laughter throughout the game.

According to a firm spokesman, “The program went off without a hitch, complete with the sounds and melody of the TV Jeopardy show. A duo of one IT technician and one business development team member ran two computers with the game and scoreboards. It was unscripted and had a feel of a live performance…and ultimately ended in a tie. A true win-win scenario!”
